The San Francisco 49ers were tied to yet another bizarre offseason controversy with the August 24 arrest of 25-year-old Daejon Labrayae Love, who has been accused of posing as a Niners wide receiver while running a multi-state romance and investment scheme that saw him defraud 26 women of over $1.3 million. Love’s fake identity quickly snowballed into a national story, with multiple videos he sent to the women he targeted going viral on social media.
As the story has gained more traction, the lengths to which Love went to maintain his persona have continued to surface. On Tuesday, celebrity video messaging service Cameo revealed that he DMed the company on Instagram to set up an account so he could charge his “fans” for personalized videos.
“What up Cameo!” Love started the message. “I’m a professional football player for the 49ers I have a pretty big fanbase and want to give back to them so I think Cameo would be the perfect place for me. Some of my teammates are already on, so I figured now would be a good time to join.

“I already know a lot of fans would book me to pick their fantasy draft order.”
Cameo weren’t the only ones to get a DM from the alleged con man. Former NFL wide receiver Julian Edelman, who co-hosts the Dudes on Dudes podcast with Rob Gronkowski, shared an Instagram DM that he received in which Love asked for a meeting with the New England Patriots and help with travel costs.
“Yo I was just recently cut from the 49ers and looking for my next team to give me a chance,” Love sent to Edelman. “You think you could get me a meeting with the Patriots? My bank account’s frozen right now but obviously can get you back for travel costs after I get back from Foxboro.”

Although the franchise has yet to acknowledge Love’s long-reaching defrauding schemes, 49ers wide receivers coach Leonard Hankerson poked fun at the situation on Instagram. For anyone doubting whether someone in their life is actually in the NFL, ESPN’s Mina Kimes even shared a video on her own X account to help fans identify legitimate players and expose the holes in Love’s masquerade.
