When was Coventry City's last in the Premier League?

Coventry City last was a part of the Premier League in 2000-01. It was a dour campaign for the Sky Blues, who limped to a 19th-place finish en route to relegation. Gordon Strachan's side started the year brightly, collecting two wins in its opening three games.

Things would unravel as the year wore on, with Coventry City obtaining just two more wins by the end of the calendar year. The Sky Blues' winless run stretched into the new year, leaving them cut adrift from safety.

Coventry City recorded three wins in four matches in spring to give itself an outside shot at avoiding the drop. But the results would prove to be purely cosmetic. The Sky Blues were relegated with 34 points.

The following two decades would prove trying for the West Midlands side, who dropped into League 2 — the fourth-tier of English football — in 2017-18. The Sky Blues have turned things around over the last nine seasons, surging up the footballing pyramid with two promotions to in three seasons. They won the Championship with ease in 2025-26, finishing the year 11 points clear of second-place Ipswich Town.
