Copenhagen initiate talks with Borussia Dortmund over Diant Ramaj return

Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Diant Ramaj could return to FC Copenhagen for a second loan spell as talks continue over an exit from the Bundesliga club. According to Danish outlet Bold.dk, Sky Germany and Kicker, Copenhagen are negotiating with Dortmund over the 24-year-old. A loan containing a purchase option is under discussion, although no agreement has yet been finalized.

Kicker reports that Ramaj has not yet travelled to Denmark. The goalkeeper is nevertheless open to returning to Copenhagen, where he enjoyed a successful loan during the second half of the 2024/25 campaign. The proposed purchase option is reportedly worth approximately €5m — roughly the same amount Dortmund originally paid Ajax to sign Ramaj in February 2025.

Ramaj has never made a competitive first-team appearance for BVB.

Copenhagen return would reunite Ramaj with successful loan club

Dortmund signed Ramaj from Ajax for €5m in February 2025. The goalkeeper signed a contract through 2029 before immediately moving to Copenhagen on loan. Ramaj went on to make 19 appearances for the Danish club, conceding only 14 goals and recording ten clean sheets while helping Copenhagen complete a domestic double.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt prospect also made clear during that spell that he viewed regular football as essential to his development. In a March interview, Ramaj expressed considerable confidence in his own abilities while acknowledging that displacing Gregor Kobel at Dortmund would represent a major challenge.

Get German Football Newsreported last summer that Ramaj had no intention of simply serving as Kobel’s deputy, prompting Dortmund to explore another loan. Heidenheim eventually emerged as the preferred destination. After the clubs reached an agreement, Ramaj returned to his former academy club and was immediately installed as the new No. 1.

GGFNcovered the surprise decision to place Ramaj ahead of long-serving goalkeeper Kevin Müller, giving the Dortmund loanee the regular Bundesliga football he had demanded. Ramaj remained a regular despite Heidenheim’s difficult relegation campaign.

GGFN’swinter assessment of the club noted that his raw statistics — including a lack of clean sheets and a high goals-conceded total — did not accurately reflect his individual performances behind one of the league’s weakest defensive units.

Dortmund pathway remains blocked

Ramaj has now returned to Dortmund, but his pathway remains effectively closed. Kobel remains firmly established as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, while Alexander Meyer, Patrick Drewes and Silas Ostrzinski provide additional depth. Ramaj was also left out of Dortmund’s preseason trip to Japan, further underlining that he does not feature prominently in the club’s plans. Copenhagen, meanwhile, may soon require another goalkeeper.

For Dortmund, a loan with a €5m purchase option would also offer a potential route towards recouping most or all of the fee invested in Ramaj 18 months ago. For the goalkeeper himself, the motivation remains unchanged: regular football.
