Daniel Jones looks fairly close to full strength after an Achilles injury ended his 2025 season.
The Indianapolis Colts quarterback tore his right Achilles on Dec. 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars and underwent surgery two days later.
Less than four months passed, and Jones was already throwing during an offseason workout at former Colts quarterback Philip Rivers’ home in Alabama.
David Morris, Jones’ longtime personal quarterbacks coach, said that Jones was doing enough during that session that Morris occasionally had to tell him to ease up.
“He did a lot,” Morris said, in an interview with The Athletic. “He’s the type of guy where maybe sometimes he pushes too hard.”
That approach continued throughout Jones’ rehabilitation, as Colts coach Shane Steichen stated that Jones attacked the process “tirelessly,” spending long days between the training room, weight room and throwing sessions.
The efforts of the former Duke standout have shown up on the field.
Wide receiver Josh Downs said Jones looked so comfortable early in camp that he had essentially forgotten about the injury. Steichen also said the Achilles has not impacted Jones during practice.
The last element of his game to recover is his speed, which was most notable when Jones reached 21.23 mph during an 80-yard run in 2020.
His best post-surgery mark so far is 19.7 mph.
“I got to get my numbers back up,” Jones said, “and I will.”
More importantly for Indianapolis, Jones has handled first-team work throughout camp and unsurprisingly enters Year 2 in Steichen’s offense as the unquestioned starter.
