Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) President Manickam Tagore speaking to reporters after paying homage at the memorial of Tyagi Immanuel Sekaran here on Friday, said that Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will campaign across all 40 constituencies in the State to ensure Rahul Gandhi becomes the Prime Minister.

Reiterating the party’s stance, Mr. Tagore stated that the Congress considers Rahul Gandhi the prime ministerial candidate for the INDIA bloc.

He added that the ruling State alliance functions as a secular social justice front in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, with Mr. Vijay leading the coalition.

Addressing the media during the event, Social Justice Minister Vanni Arasu announced that the government would soon enact a special law to prevent honour killings.

He noted that the memorial hall for Immanuel Sekaran was built following persistent demands raised by the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) in the State Assembly. He stated that a special law to prevent honour killings would be enacted soon after receiving the report from Justice K. N. Basha.

Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) Chief Coordinator Seeman launched a scathing attack on the government during his visit to the memorial.

He announced that the party would release its candidate list for the upcoming by-elections on September 13.

Questioning infrastructure priorities, Mr. Seeman asked why a massive new airport spanning 5,000 acres is being planned for the benefit of a single private capitalist when the existing Meenambakkam facility is operational.
