Another budding star wide receiver has arrived on campus for Ohio State in the 2026 season. Chris Henry Jr., a five-star recruit who's set to follow Jeremiah Smith as WR1 in Columbus, chose the Buckeyes over Clemson, Georgia and more.
As football fans watch Henry catch passes in Ohio State's offense this season, however, they may notice he has the same name as a former star college receiver who took his talents to the NFL. Henry is the son of Chris Henry, who starred at West Virginia and for the Cincinnati Bengals prior to his death in 2009.
Henry's death in December 2009, during the NFL season, led to heartfelt tributes and mourning across the league in the weeks to follow, and his children, including Chris Jr., were partly raised by one of his former teammates, Adam "Pacman" Jones.

" A 911 caller said they she saw a shirtless man with a cast on his arm in the bed of a yellow pickup "beating on the back of this truck window," while another caller said he saw an unresponsive man laying in the road. In January 2010, Tonga spoke publicly about Henry's death for the first time, saying she wasn't driving fast at the time of the incident and that Henry may have thought "he was going to land right" when he jumped out of the moving truck. "I wasn't going fast. Maybe he was scared because he saw someone calling the police," Tonga said,
"I know I wasn't going fast at all because I was trying to drive slow because I knew he was in the back standing up.
