The Kansas City Chiefs signed former defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah to a one-year deal, according to a report from Adam La Rose of ProFootballRumors.com that also referenced reporting from Adam Schefter of ESPN.   Ogbah is a ten-year veteran, and the defensive end won a Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs as a member of the 2019-20 championship team. This signing is partially a result of training camp injuries at the position, as Kansas City’s line depth is a little shaky right now and they moved on from Mike Danna in the offseason, with Danna now listed as a linebacker with the Buffalo Bills.  Ogbah played out the first three years of his rookie contract with the Cleveland Browns before being traded to the Chiefs, and during his walk year he made four starts and played in ten games with 5.5 sacks.  He joined the Miami Dolphins after that on a four year deal worth just over $16 million, and Ogbah provided decent value in the first two seasons of that deal, as he got nine sacks for Miami in both 2020 and 2021.  After that his value cratered, as Ogbah had just a single sack in 2022, and five sacks each in 2023 and 2024.He then moved on to the Jacksonville Jaguars last year, but his numbers weren’t good as he had just a half-sack for the Jags.  He played for $3.25 million last year, but it would be surprising if his Chiefs deal was close to that, although terms weren’t disclosed. Kansas City came into this week with less than $4 million in cap space, according to La Rose, and they rank near the lowest in the league in the lowest remaining cap space.  He’ll now compete for a depth role in Kansas City, but one person who will welcome the 32-year old lineman will be defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who might be able to resuscitate Ogbah’s career to at least some extent.  "I always had an affection for E," defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo said. "I've always periodically been in touch with him. If he's part of our group, I'll be excited about that." The other names in Kansas City are George Karlaftis and Felix Anudike-Uzoma, along with second-round pick R Mason Thomas. Anudike-Uzoma has flashed in camp as he, too, looks to revive his career, and Karlaftis didn’t give the Chiefs the high sack numbers the team was hoping for last year.
