Newcastle United’s search for additional forwards continues with less than two weeks remaining in the transfer window, and the Magpies have been linked with several players as Matthias Jaissle reshapes his squad at St. James’ Park.

One potential target could become available before the Sept. 1 deadline, with Chelsea prepared to sell Liam Delap only a year after signing him from Ipswich Town for £30 million.

Delap has fallen down the Blues’ pecking order following another summer of changes at Stamford Bridge, and his exit is looking more likely by the day.

Late Saturday, TransferFeed reported that Delap is specifically waiting for Newcastle to turn its interest into a concrete offer for his services, shortly after talkSPORT reported that Delap wants to remain in the Premier League despite interest from Como.

“Liam Delap is hoping that Newcastle will formalise their interest,” TransferFeed reported.

The Italian club can offer Champions League soccer to Delap this season, but the 23-year-old reportedly favors continuing his career in England.

“Liam Delap wants to stay in the Premier League amid interest from Como, talkSPORT understands,” the report says. “The Chelsea striker has been told he can leave Stamford Bridge this summer, as the club look to trim down their huge first-team squad.”

Delap’s preference obviously strengthens Newcastle’s position if Jaissle and the club decide to advance their interest in the Chelsea striker. The Magpies and Everton have both been linked with Delap, although neither had submitted a concrete offer by Saturday morning, according to talkSPORT.

In a comprehensive report by

Even though Delap scored only once in the Premier League and twice across all competitions during an injury-affected debut campaign, The Daily Mail revealed Chelsea is just trying to recoup the £30 million the Blues spent on the striker, making him one of the best bargains available in the market.

Would you spend £30 million on Delap after his difficult season at Chelsea, should Newcastle pursue a different forward, or would you prefer the club to focus on strengthening other areas? Share your thoughts below.
