The Chargers and 49ers held a joint practice on Tuesday. The fully padded, two-hour session at The Bolt offered both teams a high-intensity evaluation ahead of their upcoming preseason matchup on Thursday night. Quarterback Justin Herbert and his wide receiving corps shined against San Francisco's first-team defensive backs, looking their sharpest in the red zone, where Herbert and wide receiver Ladd McConkey put their chemistry on display as they hooked up for two touchdowns. Herbert also threw for a few explosive passes throughout the day to multiple targets, including one to Quentin Johnson, who made a nice one-handed grab.

The offense also found success on the ground, highlighted by a powerful sequence in which running back Omarion Hampton completely ran over 49ers safety Ji'Ayir Brown in the open field during 11-on-11 drills. Keaton Mitchell broke loose for big gains as well. On the other side of the ball, edge rusher Tuli Tuipulotu was an absolute force, blowing past the Niners' offensive line to record multiple tackles for loss and simulated sacks. Khalil Mack registered a pair of would-be sacks, and Bud Dupree added a tackle for loss. Cornerback Eric Rogers and linebacker Del'Shawn Phillips each recorded a takeaway. Despite all the good from the session, there was also some not-so-good. The most alarming moment occurred during 11-on-11 work when newly acquired starting center Tyler Biadasz suffered a leg injury. 49ers defensive tackle Sebastian Valdez fell directly onto Biadasz’s left knee, requiring the medical staff to bring out the cart to transport the lineman off the practice field. The severity of Biadasz's injury is unknown at the moment. But should he have to miss time, rookie Jake Slaughter would likely be the next in line to be the team's starting center. When Biadasz left today, Slaughter came in to replace him. Adding to the toll, Johnston left the field limping after going up for a contested catch. Early reports suggest Johnston avoided a long-term problem. Furthermore, edge rusher Kyle Kennard was forced to exit the session with a visible limp, accompanied by a team trainer.
