It’s officially time for the 2026-27 NFL season to kick off, and head coach already gave fans an early treat.
The Chargers are preparing to open their 2026 season against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, and Harbaugh when discussing where his focus stands entering Week 1.
“It’s September. It’s time to play our first game. And I support no cause, foreign or domestic, other than the greatness of the Los Angeles Chargers,” Harbaugh said.

The offseason conversations are finally over. The Chargers have spent months hearing about their potential, particularly after hiring former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel as offensive coordinator in January. Now it’s time to see the results.
McDaniel’s arrival has created excitement about what Justin Herbert and this offense could accomplish. The Chargers have made the playoffs in each of Harbaugh’s first two seasons, winning 11 games both years, but simply getting into the postseason isn’t the goal anymore.
The focus isn’t just on winning a playoff game; Los Angeles wants to make a legitimate run at a Super Bowl.
That journey starts against Arizona. The Chargers will enter the matchup as the better team, but Week 1 can produce some strange results. Arizona will also be playing its first game under new head coach Mike LaFleur, meaning there will be plenty of unknowns on both sidelines.
One thing we already know is what Harbaugh wants his team to look like. Any team coached by him is going to play physical football, and the on the other side to complement that identity. There has been enough talking about what this combination could become.
As Harbaugh essentially said himself, it’s September. It’s time to play football.
