The Los Angeles Chargers had their $30 million offseason signing, Tyler Biadasz, get carted off the field during practice.

The Chargers’ offensive line has struggled mightily over the past few years, mainly because injuries have forced key contributors to miss games and rely on backups.

Unfortunately, that trend has continued, as a San Francisco 49ers pass rusher landed on Biadasz’s left leg toward the back.

Biadasz, according to reports, could not put any weight on his leg, forcing him to be carted off the field.

Biadasz was signed to be the starting center over the offseason, hoping to be the final piece of an offensive line with serious talent, especially at the tackle spots.

With new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel’s zone-running scheme, Biadasz was a perfect fit because of his ability to block on the move.

However, now it seems he will be out for at least the start of the season, if not the whole year.

He was going to be a big upgrade over Bradley Bozeman, who has been a weak link at center over the last few seasons.

However, the Chargers luckily have the ideal backup to Biadsz, which should make the injury not too big of a deal, especially if there are no other absences.

Who will replace Tyler Biadasz on the offensive line?

Even after signing Biadasz, the Chargers drafted Jake Slaughter, an offensive lineman who played center exclusively at Florida.

He was supposed to compete for the left guard spot, but now there is a clear opening for him to slot into.

His quarterback, Justin Herbert, was pleased with Slaughter’s ability to step into Biadasz’s role.

“I thought he did great, to be able to step in as quickly as he did,” Herbert said.

“He’s got a great feel for the offense, moves quickly. He’s a great pass protector. Obviously a tough situation, but I thought he did a great job today.”

Slaughter has long been thought to be a better center in the future than a guard, which made his selection puzzling at first, but with Biadasz’s unfortunate injury, the rookie gets a clear shot at playing.
