The Los Angeles Chargers scouting department is beginning to pay more attention to the 2027 NFL Draft class as the college football season is now underway.
The draft is still eight months away, but the chargers have a general idea of what needs to be improved going into the 2027 season. Bleacher Report conducted a recent mock draft, where the team selected Iowa interior lineman Trevor Lauck.
“Lauck is a tough, hard-nosed left tackle with good in-line power as a run blocker, fitting the traditional Iowa archetype,” Bleacher Report scout Brandon Thorn said.
“He also appears a bit sawed-off for left tackle consideration at the next level, though he has the movement skills to make it work if needed. Similar to previous Iowa tackles Riley Reiff, Brandon Scherff and Bryan Bulaga, Lauck has the play-strength and competitive toughness to signal a high-floor NFL starter, with the potential to seamlessly slide inside and excel.”
The Chargers have Kayode Awosika as the starting left guard on the initial depth chart, suggesting that the team does not have a long-term solution at the position. Putting Lauck in the left guard spot would give the Chargers three first-round picks in the trenches, joining Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt.
The Chargers will need to see how they perform in the 2026 season before figuring out which positions to prioritize going into the next draft. Adding a left guard who could be one of the better interior lineman prospects going into next year is definitely a smart choice for a team like the Chargers.
