The Arizona Cardinals are in for a rough 2026 campaign. After a tumultuous 2025 campaign, Arizona is still quite far from light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. While they have some intriguing pieces on their roster, it’s unfortunately not going to be enough to contend in the best division in the NFL this year.
That being said, the best thing the Cardinals can do this year is to secure their future assets for when they’re ready to contend. Their first target is to re-sign one of their standout players from last season: Michael Wilson. Wilson and Arizona are currently discussing the terms of a potential contract extension. According to Josh Weinfuss, it seems like the two sides are nearing an agreement.
“Hearing that there’s been movement on Michael Wilson’s negotiations with the Cardinals,” Weinfuss reported. “Something could come down in the next day or so.”

Wilson finished the 2025 season as the Cardinals’ best receiver. He finished the season with 1,006 receiving yards on 78 catches and seven receiving touchdowns. Despite playing with former first-round pick Marvin Harrison Jr, Wilson was still arguably Arizona’ best receiving threat outside of Trey McBride. Now in his fourth year, the budding star wide receiver is due for a new contract.
There was some concern earlier this offseason that the Cardinals might let Wilson move forward this season without a contract extension. GM Monti Ossenfort’s comments back in August certainly didn’t help matters.
“He’s a guy we want around here a long time,” Ossenfort said, via team beat reporter Darren Urban. “Expect? That’s a tough word. Our interest is in keeping him here.”
Thankfully, it seems like the two sides are now inching closer and closer to a new contract. Wilson will once again play a pivotal role for the Cardinals this season. What that role is remains to be seen: Arizona is still hoping that Harrison Jr fulfills his potential as a true WR1 option. However, if Wilson continues his productive play from last season, he might completely change the conversation.
