Post-hype fantasy football players are not traditional sleepers. Managers knew these NFL names last summer and often paid meaningful draft capital to get them. The expected breakouts never arrived, whether because of injuries, limited opportunities or poor play. That disappointment now creates value.

Expectations have fallen, but the talent that produced the original excitement has not necessarily disappeared.

These six players underwhelmed fantasy managers in 2025, yet each enters 2026 with a lower price tag and a realistic path toward finally delivering on his potential.

Cam Ward, QB, Tennessee Titans

Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward is hoping to deliver a bounce back after a disappointing fantasy football season in 2025.
Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward (1) carries big expectations in 2026.

Ward entered 2025 as the No. 1 overall pick and an upside fantasy quarterback. Maybe he wasn’t fawned over, but as a rookie, many hoped for the best and believed in silver linings.

He instead finished with 3,169 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, seven interceptions and a 33.2 QBR while taking a league-high 55 sacks.

His play improved late, however, and Tennessee hired Brian Daboll as offensive coordinator after adding receivers Wan’Dale Robinson and Carnell Tate. Daboll should create more designed rushing opportunities after Ward recorded only nine such attempts as a rookie.

Ward’s strong arm and off-script ability remain intact. At a QB27-level price, fantasy managers are no longer paying for an immediate star.

Jonathon Brooks, RB, Carolina Panthers

NFL: Buffalo Bills at Carolina Panthers
Carolina Panthers running back Jonathon Brooks (24) before the game at Bank of America Stadium.

Brooks’ 2025 disappointment was complete because he never played. A second ACL tear cost the former second-round pick the entire season after he had already been limited to nine rookie carries in 2024. That history makes him risky, but it also explains his reduced price.

Brooks is finally healthy, receiving first-team work and pushing Chuba Hubbard for touches. Hubbard also suffered a noticeable production decline last season and is dealing with a hamstring injury.

“He looks like the guy I remember,” coach Dave Canales said of Brooks. The original talent and three-down potential remain; only the expectations have changed.

Jordan Mason, RB, Minnesota Vikings

NFL: Washington Commanders at Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota Vikings running back Jordan Mason (27) rushes the ball against the Washington Commanders during the second half at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Mason became a popular 2025 breakout candidate after Minnesota acquired him from San Francisco. He produced a respectable 758 yards and six touchdowns on 159 carries, but finished only 46th among running backs in PPR points per game. His receiving role was almost nonexistent, with 14 catches for 51 yards.

The underlying rushing performance offers some hope. Mason averaged 4.8 yards per carry and ranked sixth in rushing yards over expected per attempt. Aaron Jones remains the preferred passing-down back, but he turns 32 during the season and missed five games last year.

Mason is again undervalued. Now fantasy football managers understand that his clearest path to relevance comes through carries and touchdowns.

Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Arizona Cardinals

Marvin Harrison Jr. — Arizona Cardinals (4th overall, 2024)
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. (18) walks off the field after the game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Arizona Cardinals at AT&T Stadium.

Harrison was drafted as a fantasy WR1 in each of his first two seasons. He has yet to earn that label. Injuries limited him to 12 games in 2025, when he caught 41 of 73 targets for 608 yards and four touchdowns. That translated to only 10.7 fantasy points per game and another steep drop in his perceived value.

Harrison now enters Mike LaFleur’s offense as the primary outside receiver, with Jacoby Brissett expected to start at quarterback. The Cardinals want Harrison in the same X-receiver role Davante Adams held under LaFleur in Los Angeles. Harrison is now priced as a high-end fantasy WR3, making the unrealized ceiling much easier to chase.

Matthew Golden, WR, Green Bay Packers

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden (0) against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium.

Golden carried first-round draft capital and breakout expectations into his rookie season. He finished with only 29 receptions for 361 yards and no regular-season touchdowns, leaving fantasy managers to wonder why Green Bay drafted him 23rd overall.

His season ended with a more encouraging four-catch, 84-yard playoff performance. Golden also converted 11 of 17 third- or fourth-down targets into first downs and ranked third among Packers receivers in open rate. Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks are gone, creating a larger role in Year 2.

Offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich has predicted a “big year” for Golden, whose speed and route-running ability remain appealing at a reduced cost.

Isaiah Likely, TE, New York Giants

NFL: New York Giants OTA
New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart (6) and wide receiver Isaiah Likely (9) talk during organized team activities at Quest Diagnostics Training Center.

Every year, a batch of Tier 3 and 4 tight ends earn some recognition as a potential fantasy football sleeper or breakout. It rarely pans out.

Likely was a trendy breakout selection last summer (and seemingly every season since he’s entered the NFL) after producing 477 yards and six touchdowns in 2024. Instead, he recorded only 27 receptions, 307 yards and one touchdown, finishing as the TE45.

Baltimore never consistently separated him from Mark Andrews, but New York invested three years and $40 million to make Likely a featured part of its passing game.

He also followed former Ravens coach John Harbaugh to the Giants and has become one of Jaxson Dart’s favorite training camp targets.

“He’s a hard guy to cover,” Harbaugh said during camp. Likely finally has the role that once drove his fantasy hype, only at a much lower price.
