There will be a lot of points of improvement for the Chicago Bears going into their last preseason game against the Tennessee Titans this Saturday after their rough loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals game was a disaster for the Bears. There committed 11 penalties, multiple fumbles, although they never turned the ball over, only converted 2-of-14 third down attempts and failed to score a touchdown. Quarterback Caleb Williams singled out execution and penalties as part of what Chicago focuses on next week as they prepare for the Titans. "
Execution, penalties, and just getting started," Williams said. " On the first play, we had a fumbled snap, so it’s small things like that that add up. It’s just us being able to go out there and eliminate those mistakes. A lot of it comes down to focus, and that’s something we can control. "
Preseason games always need to be taken with a grain of salt given the first string only played one drive. However, the starters were not immune to these problems as the Bears had a penalty on their opening drive that stalled them in the red zone. This was a problem at times last season as well. Chicago has enough time before their regular season opener against the Carolina Panthers on Sept_ABBR. 13 to address some of these issues. The Bears cannot afford to have these types of struggles in the regular season as the NFC North is expected to be a competitive division between the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers and even the Minnesota Vikings with Kyler Murray at quarterback.
