Powers-Johnson is a proven asset as the 44th overall selection in 2024 NFL draft. The Raiders' new coaching staff simply wanted to see Powers-Johnson prove himself in a new system. The former Oregon standout handled himself accordingly, and was rightly named the winner in the right guard battle.
It's more of a compliment to JPJ than it is a negative for Rogers. Rogers legitimately played good football during the preseason. The 2025 third-round pick (No. 98 overall) did not allow a single sack and was tagged with forfeiting just one quarterback pressure in 83 total snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.
Rogers also played admirably down the stretch of the 2025 campaign as a rookie. The former Texas Tech Red Raider still has massive upside and a bright future with the Raiders. There's no shame in losing a position battle to the reliable Powers-Johnson.
Rogers still profiles as a future starter for the Raiders. For now, he'll play a key reserve role behind the interior starters.
