The alleged ‘purification’ of roads at Erravalli near the farmhouse of BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in Siddipet district on Wednesday, using turmeric water, has sparked a controversy.

The ritual was reportedly performed by BRS workers a day after Congress workers and Dalit organisations held a ‘Chavu-Dappu’ (funeral drum-beating) protest in the area on Tuesday.

Following the protest, BRS workers sprinkled turmeric water on the roads and other areas through which the protesters had passed. BRS women’s leader Pavani Goud of Hyderabad was among those seen sprinkling turmeric water near Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao’s farmhouse at Erravalli. Meanwhile, police have reportedly registered a case in connection with the turmeric-water incident.
