Everything that could go right for the Milwaukee Brewers did go right on Tuesday night, as they gave the Seattle Mariners a 22-0 shellacking in one of the biggest blowouts in MLB history. Their offense was firing on all cylinders that they had already put up 13 runs on the board before the Mariners decided to throw in the towel and put in a position player on the mound, who then proceeded to allow the Brewers to score nine more runs.

Of the 12 Brewers hitters to come to the plate on Tuesday, 11 of them got at least one base hit, with seven of them recording multiple hits. One of those who had at least two hits was shortstop Joey Ortiz, who went 2-4 on the night with three runs scored and a walk.

However, manager Pat Murphy said after the game that the Brewers may have to monitor Ortiz’s physical well-being moving forward, as the 28-year-old infielder is dealing with a twisted ankle, according to David Gasper of Brewers Daily

It’s not quite clear when Ortiz sustained the injury. But he did finish the game for the Brewers, so that is at least a positive sign as far as his short-term health is concerned.

The Brewers have needed Ortiz to step up after starting shortstop Cooper Pratt, whom the franchise has high hopes for, had to go to the injured list earlier this month due to a right hamstring strain. Pratt did begin a rehab assignment in the minors on Tuesday, so he is on the comeback trail already.

Considering how tricky hamstring strains are (soft-tissue injuries in general), the Brewers will, no doubt, be cautious when it comes to bringing Pratt back. But if Ortiz were to miss one or two games as he rests his injured ankle, Milwaukee’s depth will be tested even further.

On the year, Ortiz has six home runs and 33 runs batted in with an OPS of .685.
