Big passing days in the need more than a quarterback with a strong arm. They need an opponent that keeps the game moving, protection that holds up, and reasons to keep throwing after halftime. This week’s three calls ask different quarterbacks to turn those opportunities into something well above an ordinary afternoon.
This week’s yardstick: can passing volume and favorable matchups produce the ceiling performances outlined below? All three calls use official individual passing yards, including overtime, without subtracting sack yardage.

Tyler Shough throws for at least 300 yards at Detroit

Shough completed 68% of his passes and averaged 7.3 yards per attempt after becoming the starter in Week 9 last season. Sharp’s motion split was even better: 8.1 yards per attempt with motion versus 6.1 without. That association gives Kellen Moore something useful to build around, although motion alone does not explain the difference. Forty attempts at 7.5 yards apiece reaches 300.

Justin Herbert throws for at least 350 yards against Arizona

PFF’s 2025 review, including the playoffs, gives Herbert a 91.0 grade from clean pockets versus 53.1 under pressure. SumerSports shows Arizona allowing 0.13 expected points added per pass compared with minus 0.03 per rush last season: throwing was the more productive way to attack it. That is an aggressive jump, but improved protection offers a solid reason to expect it.
Baker Mayfield throws for at least 325 yards at Cincinnati

Cincinnati gave up 8.0 yards per pass attempt in 2025. Emeka Egbuka practiced fully on Thursday, and Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins also participated fully. Translation: encouraging signs for both passing attacks. Forty-one Mayfield attempts at that 8.0-yard surrender rate would cover this book. Sustained scoring from both teams would help supply the extra attempts, and Egbuka’s W1 availability would help Tampa make them count.
The calls are on the board. A busy afternoon for Shough, a statement game from Herbert, and Mayfield answering Cincinnati throw for throw. Now make those defenses defend every yard.
