BMW Group India on Friday said it will soon hike prices of vehicles across its portfolio, the fourth increase during this calendar year because of continuing high commodity prices and rupee depreciation against the euro.

The luxury cars maker has cumulatively hiked prices by around 5 per cent till now for the BMW, MINI brands in its portfolio.

“The forex has hit us quite a bit. We have increased prices by 4-5 per cent till now (cumulatively) with three rounds of price hikes and there’s another one around the corner...next month. So the prices will continue to go up for us because of the pressure of forex, of commodities, etc,” Hardeep Singh Brar, President and Chief Executive Officer, BMW Group India, told reporters on the sidelines of new 7 Series launch.

He said since last year January the forex has deteriorated about 18 per cent. Speaking about sales target this year, Brar said the company’s aim is to sell over 20,000 cars and it was on track.

New BMW 7 Series

The company launched the new BMW 7 Series range, the flagship sedan that will be now available in petrol and all-electric powertrains, and interestingly, both are the new 740 M Sport (petrol) and the i7 eDrive50 xDrive M Sport (electric) are priced same at ₹1.95 crore (ex-showroom). The powerful i7 M70 xDrive is priced at ₹2.65 crore (ex-showroom), the company said.

The German luxury brand further said that in addition to the 7 Series, the new BMW i7 will also now be locally produced at BMW Group Plant Chennai. With this, India becomes the only other country apart from Germany where the i7 is locally produced. The new BMW i7 M70 will be available as a completely built-up unit.

“The new BMW i7 M70 xDrive is the most powerful 7 Series ever created - where M performance meets first-class luxury, without compromise. It brings together exhilarating electric performance and the refinement expected from the pinnacle of the BMW portfolio...The 112.5 kWh battery enables the i7 50 xDrive to achieve a range of up to 728 km, which is an increase of 125 km over the outgoing model and is now the best-in-class range,” Brar added.

Meanwhile, the company has also roped in ‘Dhurandhar’ actor Ranveer Singh who was introduced as the brand voice for BMW India at the launch.
