Florida State did a great job loading up their 2027 class over the summer. Four-star athlete Za'Kari Johnson was undoubtedly one of their biggest pledges over that span. However, he'll be taking a trip to see another school this weekend. According to Zach Blostein of 247Sports, Johnson will visit the Texas A&M Aggies this weekend when they host the Missouri State Bears.
Johnson had announced via his Instagram that he had shut down his recruitment the day after he committed to FSU. There has been buzz that Texas A&M has been working to flip Johnson since the beginning of August, and now they have the opportunity to take a huge leap in his recruitment with this visit.
The 6-foot-1, 196-pounder is the No. 344 recruit in the nation and the No. 21 athlete per 247Sports composite rankings. In the state of Florida, he's ranked as the No. 31 prospect.
Unfortunately for Florida State, this is their reality after back-to-back disappointing seasons, which has brought the future of head coach Mike Norvell into question. That type of uncertainty leaves the door open for other schools to make a move.
This is something that FSU should take very seriously because not only does Texas A&M have the top recruiting class in 2027, but they've done well with their recruiting in Florida, as their top two commits, offensive lineman Mark Matthews and defensive lineman Zyron Forstall, who are both five-star prospects, are both from the Sunshine State.
