The tie could be decided within the 90 minutes, or it could require extra-time and possibly penalties. The objective for Celtic, obviously, is to ensure that, regardless of how it happens, they are in the semi-final draw come the end of the game.
Benjamin Nygren is looking forward to the cup clash, and having started this campaign in impressive form, with five goals and six assists in nine appearances to date, he will be looking to add to that on Sunday.
His overall total of goals in the green and white Hoops currently stands at 26, though he is still waiting for his first derby goal, and this weekend would be the perfect time to remedy that.
Speaking ahead of the League Cup quarter-final clash, the Swedish internationalist said: “I’m looking forward a lot to the game and I think the whole team is.
“I think we have a lot of confidence as a team and I think we've been looking better and better. We've been training a lot and try to fix some small things and we feel good.”The derby game at Ibrox will also be notable for not having any away fans inside it, and while it will inevitably make for an intimidating atmosphere, Nygren is relishing the challenge ahead.
“When you're in the game you just try to focus on the game,” he said. “Of course, our fans are so important for us and we love their support, but it is what it is.
“We cannot do anything about it, so we just have to focus on the game and let our fans celebrate elsewhere.
'I've always loved loud crowds. So, I've loved playing at home and away in my career so far. '"I just see it as energy within the stadium and I just bring in the energy and that's how I think of it.
“We all know it's a big game, but in this club every game is a big game. Every game is important.
“So we always have to just focus on the next game and try to win the next game. That's what it's all about in this club, and that's what we always try to do.”
And as for the possibility of scoring his first goal in this fixture, Nygren added: “It would mean a lot, of course, but it's not what I think of really.
“I just want to create chances for my team-mates, so if I can assist for my team-mates and win the game, I'm just as happy.”
