The race for João Palhinha could be heating up, but Bayern Munich are making it clear that they will not simply give the midfielder away.
According to O Jogo (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Benfica have not given up on signing Palhinha after Bayern Munich rejected an initial loan proposal. The Portuguese club has now switched their approach and are prepared to offer a permanent transfer, with the fee spread across two seasons.
Bayern Munich is reportedly demanding at least €25 million for Palhinha and is waiting to see which club puts forward the highest offer.
A return to Portugal would also reunite Palhinha with Benfica manager Marco Silva, who is reportedly desperate to work with his former Fulham player again.
Newcastle United remain another potential destination, although the latest reports suggest their interest is not currently progressing.
Luke Edwards of The Telegraph reports that Palhinha has been offered to Newcastle, but there are no active talks at this stage (via @iMiaSanMia), while the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope adds that Palhinha is an option for Newcastle, but not one they currently expect to pursue, with the club exploring several other midfield targets (via @iMiaSanMia).
For Bayern Munich, the situation appears straightforward — Palhinha is available, and the club will wait for the best offer before deciding his future.
