Bayern Munich star opens up about health challenge following collapse originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. On Tuesday afternoon, Bayern Munich faced off against FC Heidenheim for a preseason friendly, with the Bundesliga campaign slated to begin in a couple of weeks. The match itself wasn't producing anything too out of the ordinary, until the 69th minute, when Bayern's Jamal Musiala collapsed on the field, bringing the friendly to a halt. The German international got up and walked off the field in the minutes that followed, but it shifted the focus of the match, as this incident has happened recently. It was only a few days prior, during the Bavarians' friendly against RB Leipzig, that Musiala would once again fall on the field, drawing concern from everyone around him. Musiala speaks on his recent health developments

🚨 Jamal Musiala statement on his physical conditions. “First things first - I’m doing well! Above all, I’m incredibly grateful for all your messages and your support! I understand that many of you are worried. I want to put those concerns to rest today and explain a little… pic.twitter.com/4UZgqtnsf4 — Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) August 18, 2026 Given the concern surrounding him, Musiala took to social media following Tuesday's incident to express that he's healthy and clear the air about what he has been dealing with in private: a neurological issue that caused him to have these recent episodes. "First things first - I’m doing well!" stated Musiala. "I have been diagnosed with brief, temporary episodes of absence that are easily treatable and are caused by a neurological dysfunction. These can lead to the moments that have occurred recently, such as against Leipzig and now in Heidenheim." The Bayern Munich star would go onto explain that it's something that he's been dealing with and has been receiving treatment for. "I know that they may seem scary at first glance - but for me, they are currently simply part of my everyday life. I am receiving the best possible medical care in this regard, and I am very optimistic," explained the 23-year-old. Musiala was quick to point out that there aren't any further risks with continuing to play, with the decision to take to the pitch coming after meetings with specialists in the field. "What is important is that there is no additional health risk beyond this," the German's post read. "In close consultation and regular communication with the specialists, it was my personal wish to face this challenge and, with the approval of the neurological specialists, to continue doing what helps me most in my recovery: simply living my everyday life and continuing to pursue my passion of playing football." It's unclear how Bayern Munich will address this in the coming weeks, with their next outing slated to be the first iteration of Der Klassiker on Saturday, taking on Borussia Dortmund in the German Supercup. All in all, it will be a storyline to follow in the days to come. The 23-year-old has been an important part of Bayern's attack last season, recording 11 goal involvements in what was a shortened campaign for him, having taken some time to return from a leg injury suffered during the Club World Cup.
