Recently, Bayern Munich executives have been complaining about the Bundesliga’s lack of worldwide exposure and how only a handful of clubs (Bayern of course included) are the only ones doing something about it. The Bavarians decided enough is enough and instead crafted something behind the scenes (as captured by Sport1):

FC Bayern no longer wants to simply hold its competitors accountable for the internationalization of the Bundesliga  but instead wants to provide concrete proposals for a joint strategy itself.

The record champions are already working behind the scenes on ideas and concepts that will be presented to the other German professional clubs in due course. The aim is to strengthen the Bundesliga’s presence in international markets together with the clubs. One of the measures being considered is that FC Bayern could act as a kind of host or initiator for mini tournaments abroad with German participation.

Marketing Director Rouven Kasper has already hinted during FCB’s Asia tour that the Munich club itself wants to take more action on this issue. “I think we need to get into a position where we, as the spearhead, are even more actively involved in discussions within the Bundesliga and initiate topics – not just politically, but if necessary simply by coming up with good ideas on how we can go abroad together with the other clubs.”

“If FC Bayern leads the way, the others can’t stand still. Internationalization isn’t a solo effort – the league has to follow suit,” emphasized President Herbert Hainer on the sidelines of Bayern’s Asian tour. Hainer continued, saying that the Bundesliga is “clearly, clearly in the background” compared to the Premier League. “It can’t be that FC Bayern is pulling the cart alone; we need much more active support from the entire Bundesliga – not just from one or two clubs, but from the whole Bundesliga,” Hainer implored.
