Barcelona considering a deadline for Julian Alvarez operation – report

Barcelona continue to work on the signing of Julian Alvarez, largely ignoring the growing list of alternative names being linked with the club.

Hansi Flick and Deco are firmly behind the Argentine striker, although they are increasingly aware that time is running out and that internal tension is beginning to grow around the situation.

As such, SPORT reports that the Blaugrana are now considering setting a deadline for the Alvarez operation.

The end of next week could prove decisive, with Barça expected to assess the situation with the striker’s representatives before deciding whether to continue waiting or move on.

Alvarez and Barça still believe the deal Is possible

Alvarez and Barcelona remain convinced that a transfer can happen and that there are still steps to be taken.

The striker was left out of Atletico Madrid’s squad for the friendly against Marseille, although that decision was sporting rather than related to his transfer situation.

Alvarez and the other internationals who returned to pre-season training this week were simply considered short of full fitness.

The situation could be different for Atletico’s August 19 La Liga clash against Malaga. Diego Simeone is expected to rely more heavily on his key players, making Alvarez’s selection, and particularly his attitude if selected, something to watch closely.

The Argentine has already made his position clear to Simeone, stating that he does not want to continue at the club.

While Simeone could still select him, Alvarez currently does not feel emotionally ready to continue wearing the Atleti shirt. His desire is to join Barça and pursue what he considers a major opportunity in his career.

August 19 could become a turning point

The Malaga match on August 19 could therefore be crucial. In the days leading up to it, Alvarez is expected to continue telling Simeone that he wants to leave.

The player and his representatives are also hoping to meet with Miguel Angel Gil Marin, Atletico Madrid’s chief executive, so they can present their case directly.

From Alvarez’s side, the version remains that Gil Marin promised to facilitate a summer departure if a suitable offer arrived for all parties.

The player’s camp believes that commitment has since changed, which is why they want an explanation and an opportunity to discuss the situation face to face.

Barcelona have supported the player throughout the process and intend to continue doing so. The club remain convinced that he is the ideal striker to strengthen Flick’s attack.

But Barça also know they cannot enter the final days of the transfer window without a centre-forward.

Barça preparing alternatives

As such, Barcelona’s sporting department has already gathered information on other attacking options. Several contingency plans are available and could potentially be completed quickly if the Alvarez operation collapses.

Any alternative would still require Flick’s sporting approval, but the club is prepared for different scenarios.

For now, though, Barça are still waiting for Alvarez. The club’s current plan is to give the Argentine situation at least another week before making a final decision.
