FC Barcelona has confirmed the sale of Ferran Torres to Paris Saint-Germain through an email sent to members of the press plus an official statement on its website.

“FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement for the transfer of Ferran Torres to the French club.

“FC Barcelona would like to express its gratitude to Ferran Torres for his dedication throughout the four and a half seasons in which he has defended the Barça shirt and wishes him the best of luck in this new stage of his professional career," the correspondence began.

The Catalans then reeled off Ferran’s trophy haul at the Spotify Camp Nou, over a four and half season haul following his $63 million (€55 million) transfer from Manchester City in late 2021.

That takes in three La Ligas, a Copa del Rey and three Spanish Super Cups while the 26-year-old also became a Euros and World Cup champion with Spain across that timeframe.

In 207 games with Barça, Ferran netted 65 goals which puts him firmly on the list of the top 50 scorers in the club’s history. He also provided 22 assists for his teammates.

Ferran’s sale is good business for Barcelona

With just 10 and half months remaining on his contract, getting the reported €50 million for Ferran out of PSG is good business from Sporting Director Deco.

This was the last summer that Barça could hope to cash anything in on the scorer of Spain’s winning goal in the World Cup final, who would have been a free agent from the turn of 2027 onwards.

That money now needs to be put into finding a worthy replacement. While Ferran was never the leader of the attack in Catalonia, his exit and that of Robert Lewandowski leaves head coach Hansi Flick without a main frontman.

Julian Alvarez is of course the main target, but he’s proving difficult to buy from Atletico Madrid, which is adamant of not letting him join one of its main domestic rivals.

Barcelona was linked to Sporting CP’s Luis Suarez on Friday, and that news hardly excited Culers, who might have to get used to seeing someone like Lamine Yamal or Anthony Gordon as a false nine instead in 2026/2027.
