Raphinha has made a spectacular start to the campaign. After overcoming the injury he suffered at the World Cup, the Brazilian has once again become one of the most influential players in Hansi Flick’s side.
He has scored eight goals in five competitive appearances – six in La Liga and two in the UEFA Champions League. He is also thriving in his new role on the pitch as a centre-forward, while taking on greater responsibility as captain.
Barcelona want to extend his contract
Given Raphinha’s importance to the team, sporting director reports that there have been no formal talks between the two sides yet, but discussions are expected to begin in the coming weeks.

There is no urgency, with Raphinha currently contracted until 30 June 2028, but Barcelona’s intention is to add another one or two years to his deal.
The club wants his contract to reflect his status as one of the world’s leading forwards.

Raphinha also believes staying at Barcelona gives him the best environment to continue developing his game and competing for major honours.
The Ballon d’Or will have to wait after his controversial omission from the 30 nominees, but it is not something that currently dominates his thinking.
His priority is Barcelona, where he believes his performances and chances of eventually winning the individual prize will be strongest.
Flick has found the perfect role for him
Raphinha is particularly happy with his relationship with Hansi Flick, who has made him Barcelona’s first captain following the departures of Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ronald Araujo.
He is also enjoying his new position as a centre-forward. The Brazilian has looked comfortable through the middle and is repaying Flick’s faith with goals, assists and relentless work off the ball.
The attacker’s outstanding start to the season has strengthened Barcelona’s desire to extend his stay at the club, and the captain, too, is intent on signing the new deal and leading the club to greater heights.
