Barcelona and PSG have reached an agreement on the transfer of Ferran Torres, and the player’s move could even be made official in the coming days.

After Robert Lewandowski’s departure this summer, Torres had all the cards playing in his favour to have an important season ahead. The player, however, used his World Cup stardom to push for a transfer instead, and the club have happily obliged.

Barcelona never placed any hurdle in the forward’s path and have finalised a deal that will see them earn close to €50 million for the operation.

According to MARCA, there are no internal regrets regarding the 26-year-old star’s departure.

Satisfied with the terms

As reported by the Spanish outlet, Barcelona are satisfied with the terms of Torres’ transfer, especially putting the player’s contractual situation into perspective.

The Spaniard had only one year left on his deal in Catalonia, and the club see the fee earned to be solid for a player in such a situation.

Moroever, they have made a net profit on the initial investment they made for the star considering amortisation and even saved the €8 million they had to pay Manchester City had they renewed his contract.

On both an economic and a sporting front, Barcelona are happy with the terms and the implications of the transfer. They can, after all, use the same profit to reinforce the team with players committed to the project instead.

Rodri’s deal could be unlocked

As Barcelona and PSG negotiated hard on the terms of Torres’ transfer, Barcelona also negotiated equally hard with Manchester City for the terms of Rodri’s arrival.

An agreement has not been reached, but it has been speculated to be close.

Once Torres’ departure is official, it could thus directly open the doors for the World Cup-winning midfielder’s arrival – one that Hansi Flick and Co. see as a massive boost to the team’s structure.

They will undoubtedly have to invest in a new forward, and Julian Alvarez still remains the top target.

At this point, however, all the focus is on Rodri and Barcelona will see it as a massive sporting upgrade to swap a backup forward for a Ballon d’Or-winning starting midfielder who is built for the system.

The coming week will be key for both operations and their official announcements once the formalities are complete.
