Aston Villa are in negotiations with Parma over a move for Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki after his proposed transfer to Paris Saint-Germain fell through.
Villa have stepped up their pursuit of the 23-year-old, who had been close to joining the European champions in a deal worth around £29 million before the move collapsed on Saturday.
PSG and Parma had reportedly reached an agreement, but the French club withdrew after a dispute over transfer commissions. Suzuki is therefore now available again, with Villa emerging as a potential destination.
Suzuki has been at Parma since moving to Italy in July 2024 and has established himself as one of the country’s most highly regarded young goalkeepers. His performances have also made him a regular for Japan.

Villa’s interest comes amid continued uncertainty surrounding Emiliano Martinez. Juventus have revived their interest in the Argentina international, who is understood to have wanted a move to Turin before the World Cup.
Villa, however, have maintained that Martinez is not for sale. Director of football Damian Vidagany said last month that the goalkeeper’s future was “settled” and that the club expected him to remain at Villa Park.
Martinez signed a new contract until 2029 in 2024 and has made more than 250 appearances for Villa since joining from Arsenal in 2020.
Suzuki’s potential arrival could nevertheless provide Villa with another high-level option between the posts, particularly with the club facing uncertainty over Martinez’s future.
Villa have already seen several important players leave this summer, including Morgan Rogers, who joined Chelsea for £117m, Youri Tielemans, who moved to Manchester United, and Lucas Digne, who returned to Paris Saint-Germain.
