The F1 Spanish GP FP2 session at Madring saw its first red flag after Arvid Lindblad crashed midway through the running after a smooth FP1.
While there were some close shaves with the barriers and crashes in the earlier F2 qualifying session, F1 had a relatively quiet FP1 without major drama apart from traffic troubles. The FP2 session started fairly quietly with a good grip level, but had to keep their tyres alive through the lap.
What happened with Lindblad at Madring in FP2
It was becoming a challenge which eventually caught out Racing Bulls’ Lindblad. Having exited La Monumental, the Brit, on the approach to Turn 13, lost his rear and spun into the barrier. It was not an extreme high-speed hit, but enough to damage the right side of the car along with the rear wing.The barrier was naturally pushed in. He was quick to state, “I am ok”, on the radio. When his race engineer further enquired, he added, “Yup. I am really sorry, I lost it super early.” That was not a good end to an extremely good session he was on for the rookie.
Having finished eighth in FP1, Lindblad was running fourth, with a time of 1m33.890s, only 0.228s behind leader Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli. It is repair work for the Racing Bulls mechanics, who had to work to fix teammate Yuki Tsunoda’s car after he faced power steering issues in FP1.
