Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has admitted “anything can happen” with Rodri when quizzed on the midfielder’s future ahead of Sunday’s Community Shield against Arsenal.

Maresca faced the media on Friday morning and was asked about Rodri, who has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona.

“First of all, as I already said, the window transfer is open, we can buy players, we can sell, anything can happen, I just saw Rodri now in the building, I gave him a big hug. We will see what happens,” he told reporters.

Rodri was spotted returning to Manchester last night, with Barcelona reportedly set to make a third and final offer for the World Cup winner.

Barcelona are hoping they can reach an agreement with City for Rodri, while there’s speculation that Barca could then try to sign Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea.

Maresca was also asked about Fernandez and didn’t really want to talk about the Chelsea star. However, he admitted there could be transfer activity at his club before the window closes.

“In this moment I have to give you the same answer since day one, which will be always the same. He is a player from another club and I don’t think it’s correct to talk about other players. I’m not going to say anything about players who are not with us,” he added.

“For sure there are things we need to do. For now, how many, I don’t know. It can be one, it can be two. Depends also if players are going to leave. It depends. Now in this moment, 48 hours before a final, my first in this club, my focus in this moment is not about players leaving or arriving, it’s just how we can prepare the best way in the game and try to win the final.”
