ANN ARBOR — Annika Sorenstam never has been particularly known for her on-course smack talk. But her kids, well, they're apparently not afraid to let it rip, especially when the cameras are watching them. Mic'd up by the United States Golf Association for social-media content last week during the U.S. Senior Women's Open at Barton Hills Country Club in Ann Arbor, Will McGee, while following his famous mom around the course, spotted a maize-and-blue Michigan flag off in the distance, hanging in one of the hospitality tents. "I hope they burn that Michigan flag down," Will McGee said. "That looks quite ugly. " "O-H-I-O," said Ava McGee, Will's sister. "There ya go," Will said. So, what gives?

Ava, 16, and Will, 15, live with Mom and Dad, Will McGee, in Florida, but it turns out, they have some allegiance to the state of Ohio. Father Mike McGee is from East Palestine, Ohio, and both Ava and Will were baptized there. East Palestine and Columbus aren't exactly close, about three hours from each other, but hey, Ohio is Ohio. So, there ya go. Annika Sorenstam, 55, arguably the greatest women's golfer ever with 72 LPGA wins and 10 majors (despite retiring in her late 30s to start a family), finished runner-up at the U.S. Senior Women's Open. She held the lead twice, briefly, during Sunday's final round in her bid to win the championship for a second time (she won in 2021). Sorenstam finished the tournament at 4 under, two strokes back of champion and fellow Swede Maria McBride. The week in Ann Arbor was a family affair.
