After the Kansas City Chiefs’ first preseason game of the 2026 campaign, head coach Andy Reid had just one injury to report: offensive tackle Chu Godrick sprained his ankle.

Back at training camp on Monday, Godrick didn’t participate in practice. A few of his teammates along the offensive line eventually came off the field too. Reid shared the injury rundown with local media after the first practice sessions of the week on the grass fields at Missouri Western State University in St. Joe.

“Today, [Matt] Waletzko hurt his knee out here,” Reid shared. “Not sure how bad it is. We’ll just get it checked here.”

“[Esa] Pole had some dehydration,” Reid added, tallying three reserve offensive linemen that were unavailable by the end of Monday’s practice. Starting left tackle Josh Simmons had to step in for the third team briefly due to the injuries.

Right guard Trey Smith also continued to be held out of practice, working off to the side in the medical tent. It doesn’t sound like the team’s starting guard on the right side will be back on the practice field before the team leaves St. Joe after the final practice on Thursday.

“Trey’s doing good,” Reid shared. “We’ll see; he’s getting close, so we’ll see where it goes here. I don’t know if you’ll see him this week, but he’s getting close.”

While the offensive line works back to full health, there were two other players who left practice: rookie safety DeShon Singleton and veteran linebacker Jack Cochrane.

“Singleton tweaked his hamstring a little bit,” Reid told the press. “Then Cochrane’s knee, but he finished practice there.”

Rookie, No. 6 overall pick Mansoor Delane participated in a full-contact practice for the first time this preseason. He was the starting cornerback opposite Nohl Williams for the first-team defense throughout the day.

“He did everything and was in all the drills,” Reid described Delane. “He looked good; it was good work for him.”

Reid shared that the team’s doctors have examined Delane recently. There are positive indicators that Delane is ready to play at full speed.

“It looks like he’s healing up pretty good, enough to where he can get out here and do some things,” Reid said. “Then we’ll just monitor and see how he does with the extended play. He hasn’t taken that many reps as what he did today, so we’ll just see how he does.”

Other players who didn’t participate in Monday’s practice

  • Wide receiver Jimmy Holiday
  • Safety Chamarri Conner
  • Cornerback Kader Kohou (Sore knee)
  • Defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott (PUP)
  • Cornerback L’Jarius Sneed (Knee management)
  • Linebacker Drue Tranquill (Back spasms)
  • Wide receiver Jeff Weimer
