Alabama's Kinley Rasmus arrived at the Little League World Series with a multitude of reasons for baseball fans to know her name before she ever stepped onto the field in Williamsport. The Phenix City Little League standout is the daughter of former MLB pitcher Cory Rasmus, the niece of former pro outfielder Colby Rasmus and big league catcher Jeff Mathis, and one of two girls competing on Little League’s biggest stage. But through Alabama’s historic run, Rasmus' signature white bow and execution on the mound have given viewers plenty to talk about. She has also made an impact at the plate and at shortstop as Alabama continues its first Little League World Series appearance since 1999, a trip her dad made with brother, Colby, with the same Phenix City organization. Rasmus has proven that she isn't one of the tournament's best female players, but one of the best period, as her production has helped turn one of the 2026 LLWS' biggest storylines into more than a famous baseball last name. She started her day on the hill by turning a double play. In Alabama's 12-2 run-ruling of California on Saturday, Aug. 22, Rasmus became the first girl in LLWS history to notch an extra-base-hit when she launched an RBI double to left field. She also became the fifth girl in LLWS history to have a multi-hit game. Rasmus also received the starting nod on the mound for Alabama's LLWS opener against Tacoma, Washington, who Phenix City will face again at 2 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Aug. 25. She registered eight strikeouts, which tied Mo'Ne Davis' LLWS record for most strikeouts in a single game by a girl. With Rasmus' five strikeouts against Pennsylvania on Monday, she tied Davis again for the most total strikeouts by a girl in LLWS history, totaling 14 thus far. Offensively, Rasmus went 1-for-3 and delivered a game-tying RBI single in the bottom of the third inning. Whether Rasmus will have the chance to break Davis' total strikeouts record hinges on a winning outcome for Phenix City in its rematch with Washington.
