The AHSAA season officially got started last week, but a few Gadsden-area teams waited until this week to get going. That group is led by Hokes Bluff, who starts with Southside on Thursday, and Westbrook Christian who travels down to Ashville. Cherokee County and Sand Rock both get started with traditional rivalries with Piedmont and Spring Garden, respectively.
The season runs through October before the playoffs start in November. The AHSAA Football championships are December 1-5 in Mobile, one of many changes this season. The biggest shakeup was the public-private split and ensuing fallout that created two classes and got rid of 7A.
