The English star trained like a mad man with the hope of making it back to perform in front of fans and family during All In on August 30. He ended up coming back miraculously in March. And not only will the Owen Hart Cup winner compete at historic Wembley Stadium, he’s in the main event challenging for the AEW World Championship.
It’s a dream scenario where expectations are high for the two to deliver one for the ages. Ospreay feels the weight on his shoulders, but also the excitement at reaching the top of the proverbial mountain. Here the Londoner sits down with us ahead of the biggest match of his career. 
Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega (AEW)
Put into perspective the journey in the last year from having this surgery that brings a number of uncertainties to now gearing up for this huge night in Wembley.
Will Ospreay: It is very difficult to say because that was such a horrible feeling going into something that I was completely blind to knowing what it was going to be like on the other side. I never had a major injury like that. The only thing that would come close is I had a partial tear in my pec back in 2023. But that was six weeks out, do some rehab, and you’ll be back. This was a complete surgery where they’re going to be cutting into me, man, like, do you know what I mean? I hated that idea, and the idea of not knowing what I was going to look like on the other side of this thing. When I was able to have the surgery, and I flew home, my mate was thinking, “Oh God, he’s not going to be able to walk properly. He’s not going to be able to use his arms. I was building flat-pack furniture two weeks out, so then I reckon I can be the same Will Ospreay.
You mention your wife Alex Windsor. How important was it to have her there for your recovery and keeping your spirits up?
She was brilliant. You think about everything she has gone through. Two surgeries, an ACL reconstruction and a meniscus surgery. She had a career taken away from her twice, and she’s able to come back from it. She filled me up with so much confidence. How to be able to balance off your partner, making sure that we’ve got a good line of communication. It was so weird. She was coming into AEW when I was leaving to go get surgery. It was almost like my life before the surgery. I would leave my now wife and kid at home, and I would go to wrestle and then I would come back. Now the roles were reversed, and there were elements where for the first six weeks I couldn’t do anything.
I couldn’t pick anything up. I couldn’t even really go for long walks. I was allowed to do 30-minute walks and stuff like that. They even said, “Don’t let him be too lazy. He does have to, like, do stuff for himself. I couldn’t pick anything up after five kilograms. She, throughout all of it, was the biggest support system. Without her, I generally think I would have crumbled. I wouldn’t have been nowhere near the level of where I’m at. She kept my focus when I was allowed to go to the gym. She picked up the pieces to allow me to go to the gym and just have an hour to myself to burn out any demons that were inside my brain. She was honestly otherworldly when it came to being such a support.
You two got married in June. Does your relationship feel any different?
I’ll be honest with you, I love being a married man. It was such a beautiful wedding. I feel like our relationship has just strengthened from there. Any insecurities that I have in our relationship have kind of died away. We’re just one now. She’s an Ospreay now. She’s f*cked, mate. She’s ruined it for herself.
You’ve talked about how important being a stepdad means to you. What is it like finding that stability with both of you traveling wrestlers from the United Kingdom and working together in AEW?
At first it was a little bit of a struggle, just because of the back and forth. Sometimes it’s very consistent. Sometimes it is very inconsistent. There is a fine balance behind it. Me and [my stepson] have such a great relationship. We’ve got the same type of humor, We’re very much boys. I’ll look after him, but he looks after me. He was amazing throughout all of my surgery and recovery. He was in great spirits with me constantly. I got to sit there and play video games with him. I feel like we bonded with one another a little bit more. We have this game on the Nintendo Switch, it’s called Ultimate Chicken Horse, and it is one of the most fun games ever. Just because it’s just all about sabotaging one another. It’s a fun way of just like sabotaging your son, or him sabotaging his parents. Honestly, [Harrison] is such a sick kid. I’m completely blessed to have him as my son.
You and Alex both have big matches at All In in front of a hometown crowd. Does this make the event even more special?
My wife got to be there at the first Wembley Stadium show. If you look for it, you can see it, but there’s a clip of watching in Wembley Stadium. Al is right behind her, and people probably don’t see that at that point. Al was still on the independent scene, trying to get over to AEW or Japan or just trying to put her foot in the door. So to see where she was once upon a time, someone in the audience, to being now on the show. She has had so much adversity come her way, and the fact that she has never given up on this dream of being a wrestler. Loads of people after an ACL reconstruction. or after a meniscus tear, would just say that they are done. They are not going to do this anymore. But her ambition to keep going, and to find herself fighting for AEW gold on the same night that I’m fighting for AEW Gold as well. I think it’s very important and special to our relationship.
We’ve seen wrestling couples involved on TV in storylines. Would you be open to working together onscreen?
For sure, with the right storyline comes for it, for sure. We’re fine with that. People know. There’s no reason why we should try and hide the fact that we’re in a relationship and married to one another. She has been part of my schtick because she’s a huge part of my promos. Like there’s always that man with the wife that gives him a bit of a hard time, but he loves her. That’s the comedic part of our relationship that I love bleeding into my promos and into our life, because it’s just such a natural part of that authenticity that I like putting forward to people.
She’s very much along the lines of she likes to do the things that are good for her career, and I like to do the things that are good for my career. Now, one of these days, there probably will be a time where we probably have to work together, and I’d love to see it. To be honest with you, I’d love to see how we gel together as an onscreen couple because I feel like we have naturally good chemistry anyway. With our humor, we bounce off one another very well, so I’d like to see what we’d be like in those situations.
Any honeymoon plans?
I keep asking her. We had a holiday with her parents, my mum, and my kid. And I said it was one of the most stressful holidays ever because we’re doing Disney World, and we’re just going back and forth and doing stuff left and right. I told her I need a holiday for the holiday, but we’re still trying to piece that together. I told her if Wembley goes the way that we think it’s going to go, we hope that it’s going to go, we’re going to be busy for a very long time. So, we’re then going to try to find days where we can just have a honeymoon.
What do you have planned for All In in terms of gear and presentation?
The gear is modeled after England’s 1966 World Cup win. So I have the red and white. I’m usually in green, but when I play, I think about my home and away kit. My away kit is the green color, but my home kit is red.
How many family members do you have coming?
I feel all of them at this point. You know they give us some comps for, like, some tickets for my family, and I think I’ve gone way and truly over.
Kenny Omega will be your opponent at All In. You have this built-in history, but there was a point where it could have gone a different way. We could have seen you versus MJF or even Jon Moxley. Maybe even a triple threat of some sort. Was there even discussion about it could go in another direction? What are your thoughts on how things unfolded?
There were definitely discussions that it could go into different directions. But I feel like the natural and the right choice was to go with myself and Kenny because we’ve been preaching to the world that this is where the best wrestle. Myself and Kenny are two of the most influential wrestlers in the last decade. I’ve seen it in terms of our matches, and in terms of, like, the people that have followed in our footsteps. I can see guys like Callum Newman and Nick Wayne. People who took inspiration from Kenny.
To be able to put on an All In main event like that. You look at all the All In main events. You look at the MJF and match. That was kind of more humorous leading in than a sporting contest. It was more to engage the audience a certain way rather than a full sports contest. It served its purpose. Then it was the crowning of the greatest wrestlers who ever did it, against Swerve Strickland, and the story that they told there. Then it was the guts and the drive from Hangman Page to try and strip away Moxley’s briefcase to reveal the AEW World Championship. This match, to me, two of the greatest wrestlers of this generation going head-to-head and finally finding out which one is the best.

I feel ever since you’ve signed with AEW that you’ve been this franchise player. Someone who could be depended on, but what would winning the AEW World Championship mean to you?
I’ve always come to with different ideas. Just because I have ideas with matches that could be different and introduce something that has more of a sports feel and a sports mentality. I’m very much inspired by the World Cup to be able to show people there’s different ways that we can present sports. There’s different ways that we could present wrestling in that sphere. So, if I was ever lucky enough to win this World Championship at Wembley Stadium, I feel like my legacy with that championship is to create something that no other wrestler has kind of done before and bring back that sports film mentality.
Lastly, with this being TV Insider, what are you watching these days? Do you have a guilty pleasure?
I mean, the wife right now is obsessed with RuPaul’s Drag Race. She has got that on all the time. I hear these voices all the time where they are always just talking about Miss Vanjie. It’s hella entertaining, but I have no idea what the f*ck is going on. Personally, I’m really into football right now. Like, I’ve really gotten into it. I never really was a football guy. I would watch the World Cup, and I’d watch the Euros. But I’m not fully committed to an English team just yet, because, like.my ADHD, I’m sure something’s going to pop up, and I’m just going to forget about it. I’m just starting to learn about Jose Mourinho, his influence within football. I’m looking at his documentary on Netflix right now. Related
Well, your boss’ family also happens to own a certain team in Fulham FC.This is the problem, right? So, like, my uncle, when I was a kid, and I didn’t really care about football much. He was saying, “You support Man United, right?” Then I’ve got my mate, who is my best friend, who is a West Ham supporter, and it is actually my local team. If you like, whatever your sporting kits can be found in shopping centers that normally your local team.: But my boss owns Fulham. So I’m in a situation where I feel like I have to commit to an English team, but I’m not ready to commit to one yet. So I’m going to go for a Spanish team right now. I’m going to follow La Liga, I’m going to follow Real Madrid, win the La Liga, and win the El Clásico. I’m going to support them for Mourinho.
