LOS ANGELES – The announcement was startling, but the Milwaukee Brewers hope to have dodged a bullet with Abner Uribe’s injury.

The Brewers dominant setup man landed on the 15-day injured list Aug. 14 with a right flexor strain after throwing 55 pitches over two days last weekend.

Imaging came back clean, however, which gives Uribe and the Brewers optimism that they avoided anything serious.

“Thanks to God everything on the images came back good,” Uribe said. “Now it’s a couple days of rest and get back to work.”

Uribe played light catch each of the Brewers’ first two days at Dodger Stadium.

It first became apparent something was wrong when Uribe didn’t pitch in a one-run game on Aug. 12 in San Diego. He had reported discomfort in his forearm two days prior and the Brewers chose to stay away from using him.

When Uribe hadn’t improved by the series in Los Angeles, the decision was clear to place him on the IL.

Uribe has a 2.05 ERA and 18 holds to go with six saves in 49 games this year for the Brewers.

“I think we’re very fortunate,” manager Pat Murphy said. “He hasn’t pitched in four days, hasn’t felt good. Everyone was wondering why I didn’t bring him in the one game. This time of year you can’t ask guys to step on it any more. We’re taking this as a needed rest but also a healthy precaution. The MRI came back [encouraging] but that doesn’t mean he isn’t susceptible right now. We have to take every precaution. He’s that important.”
