FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots continued their preparation for joint practices with the Philadelphia Eagles this week, hosting a padded practice that featured some one-on-ones.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots continued their preparation for joint practices with the Philadelphia Eagles this week, hosting a padded practice that featured some one-on-ones as well as competitive team and group sessions.

Here are the takeaways from Day 17:

1. A.J. Brown delivers play of the day

During 11-on-11s, Drake Maye showed off his deep ball accuracy, sending a long ball to A.J. Brown, who beat both Charles Woods and Craig Woodson for a 70-yard touchdown. Maye's pass to Brown was easy, as the receiver did such a good job creating seperation.

2. Two linebackers leave early

About halfway through practice, linebacker Christian Elliss was spotted departing, walking down the hill and back inside on his own. He was limited from the start. However, the team also lost linebacker Jesse Luketa towards the end of practice, who walked up with a slight limp after getting banged up in team drills. He was able to walk on his own, but was accompanied inside by a member of the training staff.

3. Some good situational practice for Drake Maye and Andy Borregales

As has become a theme at the end of each practice, the Patriots have been doing situational drills, often surrounding a limited amount of time on the clock to simulate end-of-half or game possibilities. With 1:15 on the clock, Maye hit Brown, Romeo Doubs, DeMario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, and Rhamondre Stevenson. After that, he did two straight kneel-downs. Borregales came out for a 40-ish-yard field goal attempt, and with that, Vrabel attempted to ice him, calling a timeout before he kicked it through the skinny posts.

4. Quarterback stats

Drake Maye: 4-for-5 in 7s, 15-of-17 in 11s

Tommy DeVito: 4-of-4 in 7s, 7-of-12 in 11s

Behren Morton: 3-of-4 in 7s, 1-of-4 in 11s

Romeo Doubs was Maye's top target, catching five passes from the quarterback, followed by A.J. Brown, Mack Hollins, and Efton Chism III, who all had three. As for DeVito and Morton, Monday wasn't their best day, as they struggled with accuracy and getting on the same page as their receivers.

5. Attendance

ABSENT: CB Christian Gonzalez, OL Ben Brown, DL Xavier Holmes, LB Chad Muma, WR Kyle Dixon, WR Kobe Prentice

PUP/NFI: ED Harold Landry, S Brenden Schooler

RETURNED: DT Christian Barmore

6. Other notes

  • Mike Vrabel switched things up at practice, holding a period that combined some one-on-one drills for offensive and defensive linemen, as well as wide receivers and cornerbacks.
    • Rookie TE Eli Raridon dusted fellow rookie LB Namdi Obiazor. Rookie OT Caleb Lomu had an impressive win over fellow rookie ED Gabe Jacas. LB Riley Wilson had a decisive win over RB Lan Larison. And Marcus Bryant beat rookie edge rusher Quintayvious Hutchins.
    • On his other attempts on the skinny posts, Andy Borregales went 3-for-5
    • Hassan Haskins is serving as running back behind Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson.
    • Gabe Jacas, Eric Gregory, Leonard Taylor III, and Jeremiah Pharms recorded would-be sacks. Charles Woods, Marcellas Dial, Channing Canada, K.J. Britt, Riley Wilson had pass break ups.
    • Caleb Lomu repped at both right and left tackle.

What's next?

The Patriots will return to practice for a walkthrough session on Tuesday, Aug. 18, which will mark the final on-field work before they welcome the Eagles. It will be closed to the public, but media will be in attendance.
