The San Francisco 49ers didn't make any changes to their list of team captains for the 2026 season.
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan on Sunday in a press conference with reporters announced the team's eight captains for this season. It's the same group of eight that earned the captain nods a season ago. ESPN's Nick Wagoner tweeted out the list:
- DE Nick Bosa
- TE George Kittle
- QB Brock Purdy
- FB Kyle Juszczyk
- OT Trent Williams
- LB Fred Warner
- CB Deommodore Lenoir
- RB Christian McCaffrey
It's not a huge surprise the 49ers went with the same group of eight given the veteran statuses of each player and the lack of young players who've grown into those leadership roles.
Veteran wide receiver Mike Evans and defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa might have been in consideration had they not just joined the team this offseason. Even though they have years of service in the NFL and track records of success, the 49ers have an established leadership core that is tough to crack.
Juszczyk and Kittle are entering their 10th seasons in San Francisco. Warner is going into Year 9. Bosa is going into Year 8. It's Year 7 for Williams, Year 6 for Lenoir, and Year 5 for both McCaffrey and Purdy.
