The NFL owner was arrested at 9:35 a.m. at the Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community in East Palestine, Ohio on Sunday, Aug. 23 after responding to a prostitution ad, and reported. Columbiana County court records obtained by ESPN show that York allegedly responded to an undercover ad on a known prostitution website.
He allegedly “arranged to have sexual activity with the female in exchange for $140,” per ESPN, and was arrested when he arrived at the agreed meeting location possessing the cell phone he used to respond to the ad.

PEOPLE confirmed on Monday, Aug. 23 that York, 46, pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct — after the initial charge of engaging in prostitution was amended — and possessing criminal tools.
The 49ers said, “As this is a legal matter, which has been resolved, we will not be providing any further comment at this time,” in a statement to PEOPLE after the news broke.

Columbiana County ordered York to serve a single day in jail for both charges, but was given a credit of one day for time served. The 49ers owner was also ordered to pay fines of $1,000 and $150, according to the records.
York became the chief executive officer of the 49ers in 2010. In 2024, he became the principle owner after his mother, Denise DeBartolo York, sold him additional equity of the organization, according to .
