offensive tackle heaped praise on quarterback Brock Purdy following the team’s 27-7 regular-season opener win over the Los Angeles Rams at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Thursday.
Williams was asked to describe the 49ers’ signal-caller after the game, and it seemed that the 12-time Pro Bowl tackle .
“Look up leader in the dictionary and there’s a picture of ,” Williams said. “He’s a Mr. Irrelevant and from playing with the [third string] all the way to playing with the [starters], he’s been the same person. He commands the huddle, never gets rattled and some of the throws he makes under pressure are nothing short of phenomenal. He’s the heart and soul of the team.”

after the 49ers trailed 7-3 in the second quarter. The QB threw a touchdown nearly 10 minutes later to hand San Francisco a 10-7 lead at halftime. He followed it up with a touchdown each in the third and fourth quarters to put his team in the driver’s seat.
Purdy finished the game with 25 completions of 34 passes for 205 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. He rushed five times for 29 yards. His performance included an 11-play, 99-yard drive that gave the 49ers the lead in the second quarter.
After starting his NFL career as the final pick in the 2022 draft, Purdy has gone on to establish himself as one of the best signal-callers in the league.
