Evans started the 13th season of his NFL career, his first with the 49ers. Following 12 years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the veteran receiver decided to start a new chapter of his career by signing with San Francisco for a three-year deal worth up to $42.4 million.
San Francisco valued Evans’ services, needing to bolster the receiving attack after parting ways from Jauan Jennings. Safe to say they got a solid upgrade with Evans’ presence on the field.

Evans showed out in his team debut, catching six passes for 49 yards and a touchdown. His that Rams star Puka Nacua last pulled off in 2023, per reporter Jenna Laine.
“Mike Evans had six receptions — all first downs — on seven targets for 49 receiving yards and a touchdown in his Niners debut. The most catches in a player’s debut with a team since Puka Nacua in 2023. Evans had six catches just one time in seven games last year,” Laine wrote.

Mike Evans and the 49ers were expecting a tough test, taking on a Rams squad that garnered conversations of Super Bowl contention. Following this game, it seems that San Francisco has a strong case to make as well.Los Angeles took a 7-3 lead in the second quarter after Kyren Williams scored the first touchdown of the game. It was all San Francisco from there on, scoring 24 unanswered points to coast to victory in the Land Down Under.
Despite a slow start, Brock Purdy had a great performance leading the offense. He completed 25 out of 34 passes for 205 yards and three touchdowns and one interception. Christian McCaffrey and Kaelon Black combined for 133 rushing yards, while Evans, Demarcus Robinson and Deebo Samuel Sr. caught touchdown passes in the receiving game.
The 49ers will look forward to their next matchup, returning home from Australia. They host the Miami Dolphins as kickoff commences on Sept. 20 at 4:25 p.m. ET.
