3 things to watch for in Jaguars joint practice v. Bucs

The Jacksonville Jaguars are hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a pair of joint practices before the two teams meet in the preseason finale. Joint practices have become very common around the NFL and are quite valuable, giving starters and key players game-like reps but in a more controlled environment. Of course, all eyes will be on Travis Hunter and where he's lined up. Over the last week, the vast majority of his snaps have come on defense. Does that trend continue? But in addition to Hunter, here are three things that we'll be watching for in the coming days. Jaguars' offensive line configuration Cole Van Lanen isn't expected to take part in the 11-on-11 periods this week. Once he does return, he will take over at right tackle, but until then, the Jaguars will have to continue mixing and matching. During Sunday's practice, John Shipley of Jaguars on SI noted that the offensive line unit consisted of Anton Harrison at left tackle, followed by Emmanuel Pregnon, Robert Hainsey, Ezra Cleveland, and Walker Little. Does Jacksonville stick with that group? How does Pregnon hold up? Do they move Cleveland back to left guard and put Wyatt Milum at right guard? Could Chuma Edgoa take some first-team reps? Little can move inside as well if needed. The Jaguars do have options. Jaguars' pass rush In the two preseason games so far, we've seen mixed performances from the Jaguars' pass rush depth. Against New Orleans, this unit was able to get after the quarterback with some regularity. But against Carolina, this group was much quieter. With Josh Hines-Allen, Travon Walker, and Arik Armstead, the Jaguars are positioned well at the top of the depth chart. But for the overall consistency of this unit to improve in 2026, more steady pressure from the rotational members of the defensive end and tackle units will be a must. Position battles take center stage Performances in joint practice against an opponent are going to carry more weight than a regular training camp practice. For those pushing for playing time or a roster spot, these next two days will provide excellent opportunities to boost their stock. A few battles still ongoing include Ventrell Miller and Branson Combs competing for the starting linebacker role. Jahlani Tavai also appears to be making a roster push. Cornerback Christian Braswell may find himself on the outside looking in during roster cutdowns and needs a strong showing.
