The NFL is a league where things can change incredibly quickly. Teams can go from worst to first in just a couple of seasons, while struggling franchises can find themselves stuck in a cycle of losing. Since 2021, however, three teams have consistently found themselves on the wrong side of the standings, posting losing records in each of the past five seasons. Those three teams are the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers and New York Jets. Mandatory Credit: Brett Davis-Imagn Images The Falcons have struggled to find sustained success since the departure of Matt Ryan. Atlanta has posted a losing record in each of the past five seasons, making it one of the league’s most consistently disappointing franchises during that stretch. Despite playing in the NFC South, a division that has often been wide open, the Falcons haven’t been able to take advantage of the opportunity. They’ve cycled through different quarterbacks and coaching situations while continuing to search for the formula that can get them back into playoff contention. Carolina Panthers Nov 9, 2025; Charlotte, North Carolina, USA; Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young (9) looks to pass during the third quarter against the New Orleans Saints at Bank of America Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Jim Dedmon-Imagn Images The Panthers have experienced an equally frustrating stretch. Carolina has also finished with a losing record in every season since 2021. The strange part is that the Panthers managed to win the NFC South in 2025 despite finishing 8-9, showing just how unusual the division has been at times. That playoff appearance did little to erase the bigger trend, though. Carolina remains one of the three teams that have failed to produce a winning regular-season record during the entire five-year span. Mandatory Credit: John Jones-Imagn Images Then there are the Jets, who have arguably endured the most painful stretch of the three. New York went 4-13 in 2021, followed that with 7-10 records in both 2022 and 2023, then fell to 5-12 in 2024 before finishing 3-14 in 2025. That’s five consecutive losing seasons, and the trend has actually gotten worse recently. The Jets’ 3-14 record in 2025 was the worst mark of any of these three franchises during the five-year period. A Streak These Teams Want To End Having one losing season is hardly unusual in the NFL. Having two in a row can happen during a rebuild. But five consecutive losing seasons is a completely different story. For the Falcons, Panthers and Jets, the 2026 season represents another opportunity to finally break that streak. All three organizations will be hoping that changes made during the offseason can translate into victories when the games actually count. And considering how quickly the NFL landscape can change, it wouldn’t be surprising to see at least one of these teams finally get back above .500. But for now, Atlanta, Carolina and New York own the unwanted distinction of having a losing record in every season since 2021. — Enjoy free coverage of the top news & trending stories with The Big Lead Newsletter —
