2026 fantasy football draft positions ranked from worst to best

draft slots are like seats at a concert: They're all part of the same event, but they're definitely not created equal.

The value of draft slots can vary greatly by season. In a year where there's a consensus No. 1 player, having the top spot could be a huge advantage. In seasons with a clear-cut Tier 1 but no obvious top dog, the second, third or fourth slots might be ideal.

In order to rank this year's slots, I'm going to utilize and assign players to each slot in order of their value. For this exercise, we will be focused on 12-team leagues, and we'll utilize the half-PPR values.

In my rankings, there are two sizeable tier breaks in the early rounds. The first comes after the top six group of Jahmyr Gibbs, Bijan Robinson, Ja'Marr Chase, Puka Nacua, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. If you're lower on any of those players and don't have any additional players in that tier, the No. 6 pick would likely not be one you want. On the flip side, if you have Jonathan Taylor and/or Christian McCaffrey, for example, in that elite tier, then picks No. 7 and 8 would hold slightly more value to you.

The second major tier break in my rankings comes after the top 28 players. As a result, those with a top four pick get at least one player from the elite group (the top 6-8) and two players from that big group of second-round types. That said, there's just a 7% difference in value between slot No. 4 and the lowest-ranked slot No. 9.

If you have Jahmyr Gibbs on an island as the top player in fantasy, the No. 1 slot is an absolute no-brainer should you get the choice. Gibbs finished as fantasy's RB4 in 2025 despite having fewer carries inside the 10-yard line than teammate David Montgomery. If his goal-to-go usage improves with Monty shipped off to Houston, we could be in for a 2016 David Johnson-type season.
