The Atlanta Braves added multiple depth pieces at this year's trade deadline, choosing to add players around the margins rather than proven All-Star talent that would require depleting the farm system. One of the players they acquired was left-handed relief pitcher Brent Suter in a deal with the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for minor league infielder Nacho Alvarez Jr. Suter is an 11-year MLB veteran best known for what he did from 2016 to 2022 with the Milwaukee Brewers. Since then he has bounced around, leading to him signing a one-year deal in Los Angeles this past winter. He performed well enough for the Braves to add him to their bullpen as a lower-leverage arm. Suter is also versatile, capable of going more than one inning when needed, something Atlanta specifically valued when making the acquisition. In his first two outings with the Braves he has pitched five innings, struck out four hitters and allowed just one earned run. On the year the 36-year-old owns an ERA under 4.00 and should be a reliable option moving forward. Suter made an appearance this week on MLB Network Radio and shared his initial reaction to learning he was heading to Atlanta. "I mean, I love my time out west in L.A. with the Angels. It was amazing. But getting the news that I was going to one of the best teams in the league, I was like, absolutely sign me up. I was so excited," Suter said. Given this is Suter's fifth organization over the past five years, he clearly understands that MLB is a business. Moving from one of the worst teams in the American League to one of the best teams in the National League, and knowing that team specifically wanted him, had to feel validating and he expressed exactly that. His tenure in Atlanta is off to a strong start. He is a free agent at the end of the season, and if the fit continues to feel right there could be a chance at extending his stay this winter depending on how the next six weeks and playoffs unfold. Suter has never won a World Series title in his career, and this may represent his best chance. For a veteran in his late 30s approaching the end of a long career, the opportunity to finally win it all with a legitimate contender could not have come at a better time.
